P\u00d6LTEN \/ Die Mariazellerbahn ist nicht die \u00e4lteste Schmalspurstrecke \u00d6sterreichs &#8211; aber sie hat das umfangreichste zusammenh\u00e4ngende Schmalspurnetz: 104 Kilometer ist die Strecke von St. P\u00f6lten nach Mariazell lang. Das erste Teilst\u00fcck dieser Bahnstrecke zwischen Kirchberg an der Pielach und Laubenbachm\u00fchle wurde 1905 er\u00f6ffnet.<br \/>Etwas mehr als 100 Jahre sp\u00e4ter ist offen, ob die Mariazellerbahn durchgehend Schmalspur bleibt oder auf der Talstrecke auf Normalgleise \u201eumgespurt\u201c wird.
