Durch die Verbindung mit dem Stra\u00dfenbahnnetz von Nordhausen kommt ihr auch eine bedeutsame Rolle im modernen \u00f6ffentlichen Personennahverkehr (\u00d6PNV) in Nordth\u00fcringen zu.<br \/>\nDer Freistaat Th\u00fcringen unterst\u00fctzt die HSB auch k\u00fcnftig durch Bestellung von \u00d6PNV-Leistungen und im Rahmen des L\u00e4ndervertrages gemeinsam mit Sachsen-Anhalt\u201c, sagte am 22.08.13 die Staatsekret\u00e4rin f\u00fcr Bau, Landesentwicklung und Verkehr, Inge Klaan, bei der Einweihung des sanierten Haltepunktes Netzkater im Landkreis Nordhausen. Die HSB betreibt mit 265 Besch\u00e4ftigten den Schienenverkehr auf dem 140 Kilometer langen Schmalspurstreckennetz in Th\u00fcringen und Sachsen-Anhalt. Im Rahmen eines gemeinsamen L\u00e4ndervertrages mit Sachsen-Anhalt stellt Th\u00fcringen hierf\u00fcr j\u00e4hrlich rund eine Million Euro zur Verf\u00fcgung.<br \/>\nIm Rahmen eines Verkehrsvertrages bestellt der Freistaat ferner Leistungen im Schienenpersonennahverkehr zwischen Nordhausen und Ilfeld im Umfang einer weiteren Million Euro j\u00e4hrlich. Die HSB hat dabei auch die Aufgabe der Sch\u00fclerbef\u00f6rderung in der Region \u00fcbernommen. Investitionen in den Infrastrukturausbau der Schmalspurbahn hat Th\u00fcringen seit 1993 mit insgesamt rund 16 Millionen Euro gef\u00f6rdert. Im Jahr 2013 wurde dabei die Modernisierung der Haltestelle Netzkater mit knapp 540.00 Euro unterst\u00fctzt.
