Die \u00dcberlandstra\u00dfenbahn mit dem reizvollen Endpunkt Tabarz im Th\u00fcringer Wald und ihrer kurzen Abzweigung vom Gleisdreieck Waltershausen nach Waltershausen Ort wird nach wie vor von der Kommune Tabarz und neuerdings auch Reinhardsbrunn nicht mehr ausreichend unterst\u00fctzt. Dazu sollen finanzielle Probleme insbesondere in Tabarz beitragen, das sich mit der Finanzierung eines Super-Schwimmbades offenbar stark strapaziert hat.<br \/>Auch hat die Meterspurbahn, wie andere Nahverkehrslinien kleinerer St\u00e4dte in der ehemaligen DDR, stark an Fahrg\u00e4sten verloren, dieweil die Einwohnerzahlen stark gesunken ist. So sind au\u00dferhalb der HVZ und zu den Saisonzeiten die Besetzungen der meistens aus Tatra- oder D\u00fcwagwagen (ex Erfurt und Mannheim) leider nicht \u00fcberragend. Immer noch voll sind nat\u00fcrlich die morgendlichen Sch\u00fclerz\u00fcge, zu denen Doppeltraktion notwendig ist.<br \/>Gotha verf\u00fcgt au\u00dfer der Waldbahn noch \u00fcber zwei innerst\u00e4dtische kurze Linien, die jeweils vom weit vom Ortskern entfernten Hbf zum Ostbahnhof bzw dem an der Waldbahnstrecke liegenden Krankenhaus am Rande der Stadt fahren.<br \/>Als Kuriosit\u00e4t gibt es noch eine dritte Stadtlinie, die aber nur mit jeweils einer Morgenfahrt am Sa bzw So von der Wagenhalle zum Ostbahnhof verkehrt. Gef\u00f6rdert wird der 85 Mann starke Betrieb seit mehr als zehn Jahren durch einen sehr r\u00fchrigen Verein, die Gothaer Stra\u00dfenbahnfreunde, die mehrere Oldtimer in Pflege haben, so den Gother Zweiachsgerzug TW 56 mit Beiwagen 82 und Gep\u00e4cklore 101 aus den zwanziger Jahren, den typischen Gothaer DDR-Zweiachserzug der f\u00fcnfziger Jahre mit TW 43 und Bauwagen 93 und den Gelenktriebwagen 215, welcher aus Gothaer Zweiachsern als Gelenkwagen mit frei schwebendem Mittelteil 1967 konstruiert wurde.<br \/>Diese und einige andere Fahrzeuge werden f\u00fcr Sonderfahrten angeboten, und es steht zu hoffen, dass im h\u00f6chst unerw\u00fcnschten Fall der Aufgabe des t\u00e4glichen Linienverkehrs nach Tabarz wenigstens sie dort weiter fahren.<br \/>An und f\u00fcr sich ist in Anbetracht der Investitionen der letzten Jahre eine Einstellung des Bahnbetriebes im Th\u00fcringer Wald allerdings absolut unsinnig.
