Gegen die Konkurrenz des Autos hatte sie keine Chance. Flensburg | Nein, sie war nicht mehr zu retten \u2013 die kleine Bahn zwischen Flensburg und Kappeln. Jahrzehntelang hatte sie den Raum Angeln an das Verkehrsnetz angeschlossen, hatte zuverl\u00e4ssig Menschen und Waren transportiert. Doch nun wurde sie von der neuen Zeit bedr\u00e4ngt. Das Auto machte der Bimmelbahn Konkurrenz, der sie sich nicht mehr erwehren konnte. Und so war 1953 Schluss \u2013 der Betrieb wurde eingestellt. Es waren nicht nur Personen- und Lastwagen, die der kleinen Eisenbahn zu nahe kamen. Ihre Trasse wurde gebraucht. W\u00e4ren erst die Gleise weg, k\u00f6nnte eine neue Stra\u00dfe gebaut werden. Die war auch schon in der Planung \u2013 und von ihr wurde ein neuer Schub wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung erwartet: die Nordstra\u00dfe.
