Und so dauert die Fahrt etwa f&uuml;nf Stunden. Aufgrund der malerischen Gebirgslandschaft nennt man die Rhodopenbahn auch die &quot;Alpenbahn des Balkans&quot;.<br \/>\n\tEs waren milit&auml;rische Erw&auml;gungen, aber auch der Wille, die Gebirgsw&auml;lder forstwirtschaftlich zu erschlie&szlig;en, die noch im Ersten Weltkrieg zu ersten Pl&auml;nen zum Bau einer Eisenbahn durch die Rhodopen f&uuml;hrten. Von 1921 bis 1945 wurde sie in sechs Etappen errichtet. Bis 1942 verkehrten auf der Strecke<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Dampflokomotiven,\">Dampflokomotiven,<\/a><\/span> heute<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Dieselloks.\">Dieselloks.<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n\tEin Dutzend Bahnh&ouml;fe gibt es an der Rhodopenbahn, au&szlig;erdem noch dreizehn Haltestellen. Der Bahnhof<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Varvara\">Varvara<\/a><\/span> aus dem Jahr 1926 ist ein Beispiel f&uuml;r die ebenso schmucke wie &nbsp;funktionale<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Bahnhofsarchitektur\">Bahnhofsarchitektur<\/a><\/span> der damaligen Zeit. Zu den bedeutendsten Orten an der Rhodopenbahn z&auml;hlen<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Velingrad,\">Velingrad,<\/a><\/span> das sich auch Spa-Hauptstadt des Balkans nennt, die von Pomaken (muslimischen Bulgaren) besiedelte Industriestadt<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Jakoruda\">Jakoruda<\/a><\/span> und nat&uuml;rlich<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23Bansko,\">Bansko,<\/a><\/span> das Wintersportzentrum im Pirin-Gebirge.<br \/>\n\tDie<span class=\"hashtag\"> #<a href=\"https:\/\/archiv.schmalspurbahn.de?s=%23760mm-Spurweite\">760mm-Spurweite<\/a><\/span> der Rhodopenbahn ist vor allem in den &ouml;sterreichischen Alpen verbreitet, zuerst eingef&uuml;hrt wurde sie Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts aber in Bosnien.
