Als Bezeichnung wurde Kh &#8211; nach dem ersten Einsatzort (K\u00fchnsdorf = K) + Hei\u00dfdampf (h) gew\u00e4hlt. Die erste Lok dieser Baureihe beschafften die Bundesbahnen (zun\u00e4chst Kh 1, sp\u00e4ter 499.01), es folgten zwei Loks bei den Steierm\u00e4rkischen Landesbahnen (Kh 101 und Kh 111). Bis heute sind alle drei Loks dieser Baureihe erhalten geblieben. 499.01 bei der Gurktal Museumsbahn, Kh 101 bei den Steierm\u00e4rkischen Landesbahnen &#8211; betreut vom Club U 44 f\u00fcr die Strecke Weiz &#8211; Birkfeld und Kh 111 beim Club 760. Lediglich die Kh 101 ist seit Jahrzehnten die einzige betriebsf\u00e4hige Vertreterin dieser m\u00e4chtigen Schmalspurbaureihe. Nach langj\u00e4hrigen Eins\u00e4tzen in der Oststeiermark war es an der Zeit die Lok einer umfassenden Aufarbeitung zu unterziehen. Der Club U44 nahm diese B\u00fcrde auf sich und beauftrage die \u00e4usserst kompetente Werkst\u00e4tte der Zillertalbahn mit den erforderlichen Arbeiten. Nach einer internen Abnahmefahrt am 18. M\u00e4rz 2013 konnten sich Schmalspur-und Dampflokfreunde aus \u00d6sterreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz am 6. April 2013 \u00fcber den einmaligen Einsatz der schmucken &#8222;Steirerin&#8220; im Tiroler Zillertal freuen. Problemlos traktionierte die Kh 101 den Sonderzug von Jenbach nach Mayrhofen und zur\u00fcck. H\u00f6hepunkt war sicherlich die &#8211; noch nie vorher praktizierte &#8211; Parallelfahrt mit einem zweiten Dampfzug zwischen Kaltenbach-Stumm und Aschau. In der KW 15 wird die Kh 101 mittels des SLB Schmalspurtransportwagens nach Weiz zur\u00fcckkehren.
