Der Planbetrieb wird heute mit modernen Dieseltriebwagen abgewickelt. Dennoch haben sich am Betriebsmittelpunkt in Murau einige Rarit\u00e4ten erhalten. Bekannteste Lok der Bahn d\u00fcrfte wohl die Dampflok \u201eStainz\u201c sein, die als LGB-Modell auf Gartenbahnen rund um den ganzen Globus vertreten ist. Sie ist aber derzeit leider nicht einsatzf\u00e4hig.<br \/>Weniger bekannt d\u00fcrfte dagegen die private Fahrzeugsammlung des Schweizer Eisenbahnfreundes Dr. Markus Str\u00e4ssle sein, die ebenfalls in Murau beheimatet ist. Zu seiner Sammlung geh\u00f6ren die betriebsf\u00e4hige Diesellok VL 7 (Gmeinder 3143\/1940), ex StLB ex Nassauische Kleinbahnen; die baugleiche Diesellok VL 4 (Gmeinder 3990\/1942), ex StLB, ex Papierfabrik Rechberg; der Packwagen F 954, ex SKGLB; der Hochbordwagen K 555; der G\u00fcterwagen G 165, sowie die abgestellten Niederbordwagen Jhn 316 und Jhn 354. Ein besonderes \u201eSchmankerl\u201c ist dazu noch ein Schienenmotorrad der Marke Puch.<br \/>Mit den betriebsf\u00e4higen Fahrzeugen und einem Personenwagen der StLB verkehrte jetzt ein Fotozug im Stil eines GmP\u2019s \u00fcber die Strecke. Bei traumhaften Wetter ging es zun\u00e4chst von Murau nach St.Lorenzen ob Murau und dann nach Triebendorf. Unterwegs sorgten zahlreiche Fotohalte f\u00fcr gute Stimmung unter den Fahrg\u00e4sten und zeigten, dass die Murtalbahn immer einen Besuch wert ist.
